Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of our fabrication workshop. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the technical and operational challenges in aluminium and steel fabrication. You will be responsible for managing production, ensuring quality standards, optimizing workflows, and leading our team of skilled fabricators, welders, and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management:

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the day-to-day fabrication operations to meet production targets, on-time delivery, and quality standards.

  • Develop and implement production schedules, capacity planning, and resource allocation.

  • Monitor workflow and processes to identify bottlenecks and implement effective solutions.

Quality & Safety:

  • Enforce a strict quality control system throughout the fabrication process, from raw material inspection to final product.

  • Ensure all work complies with industry standards (e.g., AWS, AISC), project specifications, and OSHA safety regulations.

  • Promote a strong safety culture, conduct regular audits, and maintain a zero-accident environment.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate supervisors, fabricators, welders, and machine operators.

  • Oversee workforce planning, training, performance reviews, and skill development.

  • Foster a collaborative, productive, and high-performance work environment.

Resource & Cost Management:

  • Manage inventory of raw materials (aluminium extrusions, sheet metal, structural steel) and consumables.

  • Track operational budgets and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or quality.

  • Supervise maintenance and efficient use of machinery (CNC punch presses, laser/plasma cutters, press brakes, welding equipment).

Process Improvement:

  • Analyze and enhance fabrication processes using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other improvement methodologies.

  • Lead initiatives to increase productivity, minimize waste, and improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in operations management or plant management in aluminium/steel fabrication.

  • Strong technical knowledge of cutting, bending, welding (MIG/TIG), machining, and assembly processes.

  • Strong understanding of aluminium and steel properties.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.

  • Strong knowledge of quality control and safety standards in manufacturing.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.

Highly Desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Management, or related field.

  • Experience in tensile construction, architectural/structural steel, Balexco, Technal, Installux, Rayners, or similar fabrication sectors.

  • Certifications in Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, or related methodologies.

  • Hands-on experience with CNC programming or CAD/CAM software.
